| One of the great unsolved mysteries of gay and lesbian studies is that there is (on average) a large income divide between gay men and lesbians. It is greater than would be expected on the basis of sexism alone. One explanation might be that some gay men express themselves like upper class men, which helps them get high level jobs. Some lesbians express themselves like working class women, and understate their education, skills and class background. This may add to their downwards mobility. (*) |
